Miklos Marosfoi, MD

Picture
Dr. Miklos Marosfoi is a fellowship trained neurointerventionalist with more than 15 years of experience in the minimally invasive treatment of stroke, brain aneurysms, cerebrovascular pathology and spinal diseases, including spine fractures (using vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty).

After completing his training he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Neurosurgery in Budapest, where he obtained international acclaim. There, he performed a large number of neurovascular and spinal procedures and was heavily involved in international clinical trials that transformed flow diversion as a revolutionary treatment of brain aneurysms, benefitting thousands of patients worldwide.

Given his international reputation, Dr. Marosfoi was recruited as an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts, where he continued his passion for innovation in stroke and brain aneurysms for almost 5 years. Subsequently he was recruited to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center with a faculty appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he conducted cutting edge research and treated countless patients.

Dr. Marosfoi’s research in both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, vascular imaging, and gene therapy are regularly the subject of invited talks at major national and international neuroscience meetings and have been published in high impact journals such as Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, Molecular Therapy, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Stroke.

Dr. Marosfoi serves as a reviewer for several major neuroscience journals. He was an executive committee member of European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT) and was part of the organizing committee of the bi-annual World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) meeting held in Budapest in 2017.

Dr. Marosfoi was recruited to The Stroke and Brain Aneurysm of Long Island by our director, Dr. Bekelis, to continue the tradition of compassionate and advanced medical care for stroke and brain aneurysm patients. He is leading several clinical trials to pioneer new and innovative treatments for these patients. Additionally, he is heading the new minimally invasive spine fracture program in our center.
