Phillips Biplane Angiography Suite

Picture
We have designed and are currently operating one of the newest and most advanced Phillips Biplane Angiography Suites in the country.
Biplane angiography provides us with unparalleled imaging quality in multiple planes, and through 3 dimensional imaging that allows us to operate with precision in the most distant parts of the brain. Employing the new feature Allura Clarity we are able to utilize the smallest amount of radiation possible to date possible to date.
Endovascular neurosurgery is the minimally invasive field of neurosurgery that allows us to operate on brain aneurysms, stroke, vascular malformations, and carotid disease through a small needle stick in the patient’s groin. Biplane angiography is crucial for these operations to be performed safely and accurately.
A whole multi-disciplinary team of experts tends to our patients during these complex operations. This is comprised of endovascular neurosurgeons, endovascular advanced practice providers, technologists, registered nurses, anesthesiologists, and electrophysiologists.

Neuro-Intensive Care Unit and Neuro-Step Down Unit

Picture
We participated in the creation of the first Neuro-Intensive Care unit in Suffolk County and currently the only on in the South Shore of Long Island. The success of endovascular neurosurgery interventions does not stop at the endovascular suite. Our patients need expert neuro-critical care to ensure the best outcome possible.
A multi-disciplinary team of experts including neurosurgeons, neuro-intensivists, stroke neurologists, pulmonologists, critical care advanced practice providers, registered nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, respiratory therapists, and ultrasound technologists tend to our patients’ every need 24/7. Our recently expanded Neuro-Step Down Unit acts as a bridge that allows us to monitor our patients closely, before they transition to the floor after their hospitalization in the Neuro-ICU.
These model units have been created with the needs of the patient in mind. We want every one of our patients to be treated the same way we would want our family to be cared for.

Advanced Neurovascular Imaging Center

Picture
We have been instrumental in the creation of one of the most advanced imaging centers on Long Island. We offer comprehensive Computed Tomography (CT) capabilities, including CT angiography, and CT perfusion. We are the only center in Suffolk County that harnesses the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify large strokes or brain bleeds within seconds through RapidAI, and provide life saving treatments. Our MRI capabilities are superior, including multiple high field scanners, and two Hyperfine MRI machines. The latter is the first of its kind point-of-care MRI system and is only available in our center in Suffolk County, and in select centers in the country.  We utilize it in our Emergency Room and Neuro ICU to allow for immediate identification of stroke without the need to transport the patient. Lastly, specialized ultrasound technology, including transcranial dopplers (TCD), allows us to monitor brain blood vessels and offer real time information that can optimize patient care.
A multi-disciplinary team of experts including neuro-radiologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-intensivists, emergency room physicians, stroke neurologists, and technologists provide these services and interpret the images 24/7 to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.
This cutting edge imaging technology was adopted in our center in order to address every need of complex brain aneurysm and stroke patients.

Neurovascular Stereotactic Radiosurgery

Picture
We have built the most comprehensive Stereotactic Radiosurgery program on Long Island for the treatment of deep seated arteriovenous malformations, cavernous malformations and paragangiomas in the most minimally invasive way. We primarily use the Varian Edge Radiosurgery system. Targeting involves a combination of angiography and advanced imaging in a framed or frameless setting. As an all-in-one Radiosurgery solution, the Edge system's real-time approach helps enable a high level of synchronization between imaging, patient positioning, motion management, beam shaping, and dose delivery technologies. Edge Radiosurgery tracks the patient’s vascular pathology in real time for intracranial and extracranial treatments, precisely calculates patient movement in all six degrees of freedom, and monitors respiratory motion. This allows for unparalleled speed and precision.
We are the first center on Long Island to adopt HyperArc High Definition Radiotherapy. This new technology allows for fully automated robotic treatment delivery to safely, accurately and comfortably treat multiple vascular lesions in the brain.
These unique services are offered by a closely collaborating teat of experts including neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, and physicists. These procedures are ambulatory and do not require an inpatient stay at the hospital. A caring team of nurses helps our patients navigate their treatment and recovery.
Our superior Neurovascular Stereotactic Radiosurgery abilities have attracted patients across the country and internationally.

Outpatient Center

Picture
The Stroke and Brain Aneurysm Center of Long Island created the first, free-standing, integrated outpatient facility of its kind in Suffolk County, NY. Located in one of the most historic buildings in the village of Babylon, our new outpatient center offers comprehensive diagnostic services for patients with brain aneurysms, stroke, and cerebrovascular disease.
This state-of-the-art facility encompasses multiple consultation rooms, exam rooms, and an integrated cerebrovascular ultrasound laboratory. Dr. Bekelis and his multi-disciplinary team of experts are ready to guide patients and their families through these difficult diagnoses, explain their options and address any question they might have.
This model center comes to fill a void in the outpatient care of brain aneurysms, stroke, and cerebrovascular disease. We are focused on prevention, patient education, early diagnosis, and minimally invasive treatment of some of the most challenging diseases of the brain and spinal cord.
