Dr. Daniel Calnan is a fellowship trained neurosurgeon with subspecialty training in minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery. He additionally specializes in complex spine, and brain operations.  

Dr. Calnan was educated in some of the most prestigious institutions in the United States. He earned a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Stanford University, followed by an M.D. from Tufts University Medical School. He subsequently completed his residency in neurosurgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular neurosurgery. Furthering his specialization, Dr. Calnan completed a fellowship in minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
 
He was subsequently appointed Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Director of Neurointervention at Lancaster General Hospital. Under his leadership the hospital received several awards for stroke care. Dr. Calnan developed a reputation for his exceptional skills in treating complex cerebrovascular conditions, including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, carotid disease and stroke.

He was recruited at The Stroke and Brain Aneurysm Center of Long Island personally by our director Dr. Bekelis to lead our planned expansion of Neurointerventional Services to Nassau County. Dr. Calnan will be the Director of Neurointervention and the Co-Director of the Stroke Center at Saint Francis Hospital. His leadership will be pivotal in protocol creation, personnel recruitment, clinical trial participation,  enhancing patient care and experience, and expanding the center's capabilities to create a Comprehensive Stroke Center. He will help with the creation of the first Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit in Saint Francis Hospital.
 
His clinical expertise is complemented by a robust research background, with numerous publications in high-impact journals. Dr. Calnan has significantly contributed to advancements in bioimpedance monitoring systems for stroke detection and management, among other areas. His work at the MIT Media Lab as a Research Affiliate in the Biomechatronics Lab highlights his commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology with medical practice.
 
Dr. Calnan is also a member of prestigious professional organizations, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. His involvement in these organizations underscores his commitment to staying at the forefront of neurosurgical advancements and his dedication to continuous professional development.
